Regional Safety Manager (34333)

 

Job Purpose:  The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for assisting the Senior Regional Safety Manager with Canadian interprovincial divisional safety, injury claims management, and administrative duties.  The position is to be located in BC or AB with moderate travel to various locations

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instilling safety awareness to all levels of the company and working with interprovincial location personnel to promote safety culture to ensure all safety expectations are understood and met
  • Managing WCB claims, review forms, liaison between injured workers and WCB claims adjudicators; assisting with return to work plans
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the Safety Management System (HS&E manual) and Safe Work Procedures (SWP's)
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Ensuring alignment with federal and provincial governmental regulations and corporate policies recognized best practices regarding all HSE information
  • Maintaining pre-qualification programs (ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Avetta, etc.)
  • Administering of safety and WCB Claims related information and files
  • Monitoring progress of First On-Board program to transition worker back to pre-accident position
  • Pursuing transfer of cost and cost relief when possible/ appropriate
  • Filing workers’ compensation claim decision appeals on behalf of First Canada when appropriate
  • Supervising safety programs including supporting emergency wardens and diffusers. Prepares for and participate in safety audits, including COR, supports JOHSC at all operating locations
  • Participating in critical incidents, accidents, and work-related injuries investigations, incident reports, incident files, incident register, and follows up with all internal and external stakeholders as necessary. Reviewing incident investigations reports to identify trends and prevent reoccurrences
  • Administering paperless safety management (SharePoint; creating forms, user training, etc.) Administering database; tracks safety and claims stats, assist in development and validation
  • Performing other related duties as required/ assigned

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • Post secondary education in related field of study including OH&S; Ability Management and RTW CRSP Designation; Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) and/or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) designation preferred

 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 3 years related experience in transportation, safety, and abilities management
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial rules and regulations regarding safety, transportation, and environmental issues
  • Computer literate with strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks, multi-task and manage time effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels including drivers, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials and general public
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Self Starter
  • Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office Environment
  • Ability to regularly travel to all divisional operating locations throughout Canada
  • Incumbent must be able to move about the office and in company facilities outside the office (e.g., bus; parking lot; industrial camps)
  • Utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone
  • Must have valid driver’s license and Canadian passport
  • Work schedule will be determined based on company needs
